To Quote Liz Phair...

I'm just your "average everyday sane psycho." It was appropriate that this song was on as I pulled out of the parking lot of my college this morning because that's exactly how I felt. What started out as a meeting with my Public and Environmental Affairs (Criminal Justice) advisor to see about getting into the lone class I need to complete my minor, turned out to be a whirlwind of events. To sum it up, I am now on the road to G Day, which is Friday, May 12th. Though I started this blog with intentions of writing about affairs outside of academic life, I am way too pumped to think about graduation to think of much else at the moment. I'm sure the collegiate chit-chat will subside once the semester gets fully under way. (Translate: I'll blog about something other than school, eventually!)

I spent an hour with Dr. R getting things straightened out. He did an override since the class is full and I am now enrolled in "Wrongful Convictions," which means I was able to drop one of the useless online courses I picked up (Business Communication). So I am still a full-time student. Dr. R also took it upon himself to print me out information for contacting the Internal Review Board since I am planning to use human subjects for my Gender Studies project. This was awfully nice, considering I had no clue what direction I had to go for getting approved to perform such research.

I also discovered I may be a candidate for Alpha Phi Sigma, the CJ honor society. He's going to check on it, but I'm pretty sure I'd have to be working on a higher degree to be admitted. I dunno, but it sounds like a stellar resume perk.

After the meeting, I thought I'd go ahead and look into ordering my cap and gown. I went over to the bookstore and they said I'd have to come back during the "Grad Fair" in February to be fitted and all that fun stuff.

While I was on campus, I figured I might as well drop in and meet with my OLS (Organizational Leadership & Supervision) advisor to let him know what my plan is for that degree. He wasn't in, but lo and behold if I didn't run into another professor who I've had for other OLS classes. He asked where I'd been and where I was heading (he's quite a friendly character, I've come to realize). Strangely, I blurted out that I was just thinking about enrolling in one of his courses. Though I have really wanted to take it, I had actually forgot about it being an option until that moment when I saw him. Funny how things work like that.

So Dr. S took me down to the OLS office--where I'd just been--and got yet another advisor to sign me up for that class. Dr. S leaves and this other guy is in the middle of enrolling me when, literally, the computer system crashes. Apparently there was a campus-wide shutdown at noon. So he took my info and vowed to get me into that course on Monday.

I am now enrolled in one too many classes. As I was driving home, I had this super-ambitious idea to stay at 15 hours. Like Rosie the Riveter, I CAN DO IT! And then reality hits and I'm like, "Yeah, I can do it, but do I really want to?" I mean, I'm a hard worker and all, but in the back of my mind I'm secretly wanting to ease into graduation. I don't want to be stressed out over exams, papers, projects, etc. three days before G Day!

In other news, I am eating a lot of bagels these days. I could eat them all day long, I think, as long as they are smeared with heavy dollups of cream cheese. I really only eat the bagel as an excuse to eat the cream cheese anyway.

Thanks to all the folks who have made suggestions for my gender studies project. I am still in the process of narrowing down, though all recent possibilities are being taken into consideration. Luckily I don't have to have anything set in stone for awhile.
